“Our vision is to empower the Muslim youth to think independently and shape their own opinion.”

Humble Beginnings

Alhamdulillah the seed for Ihya was planted in the spring of 2021, among fleeting discussion over lunch in the refectory at The Manchester Grammar School. A group of sixth formers, we decided to launch ILM Group (ilm meaning knowledge in Arabic), with annual magazines and weekly talks in school. We piloted the flipped classroom approach, where young Muslim lads could give talks to students much older than them and teach each other about Islam. These early beginnings of youth empowerment and development helped us grow Ihya into what it is today. Alhamdulillah, the ILM Group at MGS today is still thriving under much stronger leadership.

Our mission

Ihya (إحياء) means revival in Arabic. Our vision is to empower the Muslim youth to think independently and shape their own opinion. As second and third generation Muslims in the UK, we ought to do much more in contributing to public opinion and social discourse on the issues that matter. The same way shaytaan attacks from 4 directions calling the youth to evil, we want to do the opposite. A burglar doesn’t rob empty houses- the same way shaytaan doesn’t bother attacking an empty heart. This battle of our nafs and of the ummah against evil starts at a young age and platforms like Ihya are vital in embedding that strong sense of Muslim identity. We need to start reclaiming the narrative and working against harmful discourse against Muslims.
